In just an hour, 16 children from the FRCCF community centres and the mayor of Cluj, Emil Boc, collected 28 bags of litter in the Faget area.
On the 1 st of September, from 11 o'clock, FRCCF project-enrolled children, accompanied by a volunteer and a social worker, collected the wastes from the Faget-Sfântul Ion area, the top picnic preference of the people from Cluj. This was the first of four similar actions aiming at cleaning the leisure areas from Cluj-Napoca: Faget, Hoia, Padurea Baciului. The mayor Emil Boc joined the children and helped them collect all the litter left there by people from Cluj. He said: “I hope this action makes those who go out for a picnic think twice before leaving all sort of garbage behind them”.
The children, all coming from Cluj disadvantaged families, didn't miss the chance to play some soccer with the mayor whom they found “really good”.
The equipment for these activities could be bought thanks to a 500-USD funding from Youth Service America. At the end of each of the four actions, the children will take part in a picnic to learn how to behave properly while in nature. |
