The children of Cluj are in the Book of Records For the 1st of June 2008, over 1,500 children and 150 volunteers created a chalk pavement art of 6,658 square meters, during an event organised by the Cluj-Napoca City Hall and FRCCF. The World Records Academy certified this record, acknowledging the performance of the Cluj children.
On their birthday, the children from the Cluj schools, embarked on special buses or in their parents' vehicles, and arrived on the future Cluj-Napoca highway belt. Using thousands of pieces of chalk, they coloured 62 child smiles train wagons, designed by the students of the „Romul Ladea” Arts Highschool.
The event had a charitable purpose besides celebrating Children's Day. The sum raised for this event , 21,000 ron, was used to support vulnerable children from Cluj-Napoca, assisted by FRCCF. All these were made possible thanks to the generosity of sponsors like the Vodafone Foundation, Emerson and Unimet CUG who wanted to support this cause by giving money the JOOnior Smile, while Logo Design, Rosal Grup and RATUC logistically supported the event.
The representatives of the World Records Academy said that the records in this category were NOT judged as if they were pieces in an Arts contest; the drawings must comply with minimum conditions requested in children's drawing: to have a subject, to be easily made (in order to avoid prolongued sun exposure), to be intelligible and to have an educative purpose. We think that ALL these conditions were met by your drawing!”. This confirmation arrives after the Guinness Book of World Records refused to certify this record in the summer of 2008 on the grounds that the drawing didn't meet certain quality standards”.
The World Records Academy, headquartered in Miami, is the biggest organization that certifies world records in all fields. It is a Google News (provider of content/news) partner and member of the prestigious National Geographic Society. The following world records were certified in Romania: the records set by Nadia Comaneci (the most 10 scores at the Montreal Olympics), by gymnastics coaches Octavian Bellu and Mariana Bitang (the most successful coach world record), the Palace of the Parliament (the largest, the heaviest and the most expensive administrative building), by Cleopatra Stratan (6 world records, the youngest successful singer); the longest basketball game -Sibiu; the biggest balmos -Alba; the longest bulz , Covasna etc.
