The Art of origami put a smile on the face of vulnerable children

The Romanian Foundation for Children, Community and Family together with the Japanese Cultural Centre organised an event for the vulnerable children whereby they could learn some basics of the origami Art techniques.

On Friday, 16th January, the children supported by means of the „EveryChild” Community Centre had the chance to be initiated in the origami Art with the help of the people from the Japanese Cultural Centre. The 20 children who attend the Centre's Arts class were challenged to create models of creatures and decorative objects just by folding a piece of paper.

Ms Yoko Kawashima and Ms Adela Cristolovean arrived on behalf of the Japanese Cultural Centre to show the children that the paper can come to life by means of patience and imagination. „Our wish is to jointly help the children see that Art is not discriminatory and is accessible to all”, said Oana Bica, the Community Centre Coordinator.

This session was meant to develop the creativity of these vulnerable children, to present them the Japanese civilisation and why not, to put a smile on their faces.

The three FRCCF community centres are attended daily by approximately 150 children and teenagers coming from low-income families. By means of educational and recreational activities the children are encouraged not to drop out of school and to overcome the day-to-day life problems.
