No More Shivering Winter Cold for 77 Children

The Romanian Foundation for Children, Community and Family ( FRCCF ) and Ozone Foundation distribute winter boots to a number of 77 childen from Cluj who are at risk of getting ill due to lack of proper winter footwear.

Besides the regular illness causes of the cold season, the children from low-income families face yet an extra challenge: lack of winter footwear to protect them from cold and street water. As their parents can't afford to buy them winter boots, the children wear the already classical “sneakers” or their summer shoes.

But, now, things are different for 77 of these children who have got new and warm winter shoes, thanks to the support of Ozone Foundation who wanted to do once more something for children's health.

“Children's health is a problem to which Ozone Foundation pays a great deal of attention. We were impressed by the cases of the children who come from financially challenged families and who can no longer go to school when winter comes because they don't have winter footwear. Ozone Foundation has decided to give them some comfort this season and donated to the Romanian Foundation for Children, Community and Family all the funds necessary to meet this primary need of the children”. “Most of these children's parents don't have money to buy their children winter boots or they can only afford footwear of such poor quality that it lasts for two or three weeks. After it deteriorates, the little ones keep on wearing it as it is or they often stop going to school because they have no shoes to put on.” (Olga Salanta, FRCCF Community Centre Co-ordinator).

The costs of purchasing these boots were much reduced thanks to considerable discounts offered by Leonardo shop. In the end, a little over 3,000 RON were spent to buy 77 pairs of boots.
