Sociological studies, run by FRCCF experts, show that half of our beneficiary families live below the minimum poverty line, set by World Bank, of 1$ / family member / day. Most of the children coming from these families don't have a place to study at home. In average, more than three family members have to share a room and almost half of the families have no bathroom. Low-income families have problems in raising their children and may even abandon them in a childcare institution. The children from these families may abandon school as they don't have a proper place for making their homework at home and they don't get homework support from their parents.
Due to all these, in 2001 FRCCF opened the EVERYCHILD Community Centre, the first of its kind in Cluj. Then, other community centres were set up in Cīmpia Turzii, Oradea and Satu Mare. In 2003, FRCCF opened the second community centre in Cluj-Napoca, and in 2004, through a USAID-financed ChildNet project, this sort of centre was set up in Dej (the Town Hall of Dej and the Cluj County Child Protection Department took over this project and has been carrying it on since the 31st of March 2006).
The community centre services are constantly adapted to the beneficiaries' needs. The services provided focus on social care , psychological , legal and medical counselling , homework supervision , tutoring , and spare time activities . The children can also take part in personal development groups , and disabled children get special education teaching. All children attending the centre activities get a free meal everyday and a bus ticket. |
